Thommo wins Player of the Year double

Darlington midfielder Stephen Thompson won two Player of the Year awards at the club’s awards night on Friday.

Thommo, who recently signed a new two year deal at the club, won the fans’ player of the year award, and the players’ player of the year award, for his outstanding displays throughout the season.

Thommo is one of our longest serving players, and scored his 11th goal of the season at Stockport County last Saturday.

The manager’s player of the year was Reece Styche, who was our top scorer of the season with 13 goals, which included some pretty vital ones -- and of course the one against Chorley earned us a £20,000 prize in the Marathon Bet non league challenge!

The young player of the year was Joe Wheatley, who joined us during the summer after he was released by Middlesbrough, and capped a great season with a call-up to the England C squad.

The Harvey Madden award went to John Tempest, who has put a huge amount of work into the club over the last year, and has been a great friend and helper to many.
