Congratulations to former Darlington player Kasper Schmeichel, now at Leicester, who is tonight the owner of a Premiership winner's medal following Tottenham's failure to beat Chelsea.

Kasper played four games for us -- his first games in the Football League -- while on loan from Manchester City in season 2005-06, and never finished on the losing side. We beat Peterborough 2-1, Oxford 2-0, and Mansfield 4-0. We also drew 0-0 with Grimsby. His dad, Peter, also turned up for one game at the Arena to watch him in action.

He is the first ex Darlington player to go on from the club and win a Premiership medal.

However, there is another former Darlo keeper who made his League debut and went on to win a medal in the top flight. Ray Wood signed for Quakers from Newcastle's youth team in 1949, and went on to win a Football League championship winner's medal with Manchester United in 1956.
