Thanks to the volunteers from Northumbrian Water!

We welcome as our guests today a team of volunteers from Northumbrian Water who laid the foundations for a programme kiosk for the club in their spare time.

Dean Blackbourn, Shaun Tones, Glen Donald, Alan Stobart, Chris Westwood and Mark Graham toiled away on a very, very wet day at the end of September to pave what was the grassed area outside the home turnstiles on which the kiosk now stands.

This came about after Dean Blackbourn, a Darlo fan working for Northumbrian Water, answered DFCSG’s appeal for help. Dean came forward with a fantastic offer of a team of volunteers from Northumbrian Water that included a time served paver. Northumbrian Water’s employee volunteering scheme “Just an Hour” encourages their employees to give a minimum of 15 hours every year to support community and charitable causes close to their hearts.

Since the launch of “Just an Hour” in 2002, Northumbrian Water employees have given over 100,000 hours in support of the communities they serve, something Northumbrian Water are very proud of. Last year 52% of Northumbrian Water employees participated in ‘Just an hour’ using their wealth of knowledge, skills and expertise to benefit their local communities. Their employees often find opportunities that ‘Just an hour’ allow them to learn new skills and can increase their confidence. Northumbrian Water are always looking for new projects to support, so if you know of a project within their service area that could benefit from ‘Just an hour’, you can visit their website where you will be asked to complete a short application form.

We would like to thank Dean, Shaun, Glen, Alan, Chris and Mark for their help!
