Blyth 1 Darlington 2.

A Darlington side made up of a mixture of youth and experience won 2-1 at Croft Park tonight in the Integro Doodson League Cup.

The victory was a great start for new signing Wilson Kneeshaw, and also for teenage sub Jordan Lee.

Quakers had the wind behind them in the first half, but it was Blyth who created the first real opening, but Jim Provett, making his debut for Quakers, pulled off a good save.

Both teams played some good football before Quakers took the lead when debutant Wilson Kneeshaw scored with a cracking left foot shot from 25 yards.

Kneeshaw went close from distance on the hour, before Quakers went 2-0 up when Jordan Lee, who had only been on the field for a few minutes as sub for David Dowson, fired home from the edge of the box.

Graeme Armstrong was denied the third by the crossbar, but then Blyth caused some anxious moments with 11 minutes when former Darlington player Andrew Cartwright pulled a goal back.

But Quakers held on to put themselves through to the next round.
