Redcar Athletic 0 Darlington Reserves 0 (Redcar won 5-4 on penalties)

The reserves were unlucky to lose in a penalty shootout and went out of the Wearside League’s Shipowners Cup at Redcar Athletic.

They held Redcar, who are above them in the table, to a goalless draw in normal time at the seaside, but they were beaten 5-4 on penalties in the dreaded shootout.

Joint manager Mark Fanning said; “It was a good game. We were maybe second best in the first half and improved after half time. Our keeper made a couple of good saves, and we probably had the better chances at the other end.

“It was a little disappointing not to score, after conceding seven goals in our last two matches, it was pleasing to keep a clean sheet.

“The unfortunate thing was, when we got to the shootout, we only missed one – scoring four out of five isn’t bad. Problem was, our keeper had no chance with their five.”

The reserves next game is at Harton and Westoe on Wednesday night.
