The reserves are up to third place in the Wearside League after beating Harton and Westoe 3-0 at Eastbourne on Saturday.

After losing their last two matches in league and cup, the reserves produced a morale boosting performance in their first home game of the season, with Vinny Steele the star of the show.

Vinny, making his debut just days after his 16th birthday, opened the scoring when he beat the offside trap and slotted the ball into the bottom corner, then on 50 minutes he scored the second from a penalty rebound after the keeper had saved his first attempt.

Michael Charlton scored the third for Quakers from a Callum Webster cross.

Joint manager Paul Aldsworth said; “We didn’t play very well in the first half, but we tweaked our shape at half time and we were fantastic in the second half. We had some really good chances.

“I thought Vinny and Michael both did really well considering that it was their debuts.”

The reserves’ next game is at Wolviston on Wednesday evening, kick off 6.30.
