Liam started his career at Sunderland, and was on the fringe of the first team under manager Paolo Di Canio at one point, but was released by Di Canio’s successor, Gus Poyet.

He had trials at Carlisle and Gillingham, before joining Boston United in the National League North. He became a regular for them, and was part of the team that lost in successive play off semi finals in 2014-15 and 2015-16. He lives in Northumberland, and decided to move to Darlington instead of making the much longer journey to Boston. He made 32 appearances last season, and has yet to score for the club.
