Darlington midfielder Phil Turnbull admitted that he was “very deflated” after Quakers’ 3-0 home defeat by South Shields in the FA Cup on Saturday.

Phil, who was voted man of the match by the sponsors, was turned over by his hometown club and admitted that Shields deserved to win.

“There were a few honest conversations in the dressing room after the game,” he said. “I’ve never the manager as hurt as he was after the game.

“I must admit that I felt so deflated. The shameful thing is, that Shields worked harder than us, and they had more desire than us. That can never be the case as far as I’m concerned, I felt humiliated and hurt.

“With home advantage, we should have been able to match them, but we couldn’t. We owe the fans a massive one now, we’ll be working hard in training this week.”
