Quakers are still in trouble near the relegation zone after they were beaten 3-0 at home by Chorley.

Quakers will look back though on a goal that wasn't allowed just before half time as the turning point, as Chorley went up the other end and scored from the penalty spot straight after.

Fortunately, Rushall Olympic lost at Alfreton which means that Quakers are still ahead of them as they ehad to Warrington on Monday.

Quakers are now a point behind Farsley, who were held to a goalless draw a home to Southport.

Chorley had the first chance, when Jack Sampson found Adam Blakeman in space inside the Darlington area, but keeper Matty Young dashed quickly off his line and saved at his feet.

Quakers replied with a cross from the right by Kallum Griffiths that Chorley keeper Matt Urwin held on to in the middle.

Chorley had another chance when Blakeman ran down the left, cut inside, but curled his effort wide of the right hand post.

Quakers nearly took the lead on 9 minutes when a header by Aidan Rutledge sent Cedric Main away down the left, and Main pulled the ball back for the advancing Rutledge to volley left footed towards goal, but Urwin saved at full stretch.

Chorley won a corner on the right on 16 minutes but Mark Ellis headed the ball high over the bar.

Quakers won a free kick on the right on 19 minutes after Salkeld was blocked, but Griffiths’ free kick was headed away by the Chorley defence.

And then on 25 minutes Griffiths again made ground down the right and set the ball up for Salkeld to cross into the middle but just too high for Main.

Quakers won a corner on the right on 33 minutes, but Cornish’s inswinger was held on to by Urwin.

When Chorley threatened down the left, Lawlor made a good headed interception to clear the danger.

Quakers nearly took the lead on 39 minutes. Cornish found Griffiths with a great diagonal pass, and Griffiths crossed into the middle for Salkeld to hit a first time shot that went just wide of the left hand post.

The game turned against Quakers in the seven minutes beforer the half time whistle. Quakers thought they’d scored on 43 minutes when Rutledge slipped the ball through the Chorley defence for Salkeld to latch on to, sidestep the keeper, and roll the ball towards the net but a defender just manage to get the ball off the line with Quakers claiming that the ball had crossed the line. The assistant waved play on, much to the dismay of the home fans and the anger of the players.

Main then crossed from the left for Salkeld to have an effort blocked at the far post.

Chorley were awarded a penalty just on half time when a long ball caused confusion in the Darlington defence and Young brought down Ubaezuonu. Sampson scored from the spot

Half time

Darlington 0 Chorley 1

Quakers went 2-0 down on 48 minutes when the ball was crossed from the right and was nodded back by Calveley for Ellis to beat Young from six yards out.

And it was 3-0 on 55 minutes when Calveley controlled a left wing cross and picked his spot with a right foot shot across Young into the bottom left corner.

Quakers put Jarrett Rivers and Mitch Curry on for Rutledge and Cornish on 71 minutes.

After Quakers made those two subs, they nearly pulled a goal back on 73 minutes when Salkeld found space in the area and hit a right foot shot that Urwin pushed away.

Chorley though went down the other end, and Maguire forced Young into a full length save.

Quakers created another chance when Rivers found Salkeld in the area, but he turned his shot into the keeper’s hands.

In stoppage time, Mitch Curry nearly scored a late consolation but his effort went just wide of the left hand post.
