Darlington manager Martin Gray was delighted with the way that his players bounced back when they won 3-2 at FC United on Monday.

MG was less than happy with the 4-3 home defeat by Alfreton last Saturday, but he was pleased that his players put that behind them and won their third away game of the season.

“Considering that we played Saturday and Monday, to come away with three points in real heat is a very good performance,” he said. “Our fitness levels were great and played a massive part in the game.

“It was important to get back to winning ways at a place like FC United. To pick up three points away from home in this league is very good.

“The game should have been over at half time, because as well as the goals, we had three or four great chances. If I had anything to criticise, I told the players after the game that we have to finish teams off. Without being disrespectful, by half time, we should have been 4-0 or 5-0 up.

“We’ve got to be more ruthless with the chances we’ve been creating, we’ve got to be more dominant in front of goal.”

MG was happier with his team’s defending than he was on Saturday against Alfreton.

“Our shape was good off the ball, we didn’t get done on the counter attack like we did on Saturday.”
