Darlington manager Martin Gray said that the Bradford Park Avenue victory on Wednesday night was a great three points.

Quakers maintained their unbeaten away start to the season by coming back from a goal down to score twice in the last ten minutes through Liam Hardy and Terry Galbraith and also move up to fourth in the table.

“It was another hard fought game. It doesn’t matter whether you’re playing Chorley or Bradford Park Avenue, they are another three points and a massive step forward,” said MG.

“I felt that we needed to score the first goal. Ideally you would like to get that early in the game, but we missed two or three chances to open the scoring. Nathan Cartman hit the post, Mark Beck’s header came out for Carts but he missed – we could have been 2-0 or 3-0 up.

“But we stuck at it, we had 16 corners and sooner or later something is going to drop for you, as it did with Terry’s winner.

“I thought we gifted them a soft goal, which really frustrates and disappoints me.”

MG signed 18 year old keeper Paul Woolston from Newcastle before the game, and the youngster, who watched Darlington in the 2011 FA Trophy final, had a good debut.

“The keeper was solid. His distribution was very good, he reminded me of Sam Russell with his kicking.. He didn’t have much to do in front of goal, but what he did do, he was very solid in. His distribution was quality and helped us get to the edge of Bradford’s box.”

Five players who could be termed regulars were missing from the Darlington line up, and MG praised those who came in.

“We’ve had five players out, players who are regulars. The victory was about the players who came in and not the injured players. The lads who came in, stepped up to the plate and did the club and themselves proud.

“Considering that we had those five out, together with the chances we created, was a great three points.”
