Darlington skipper Kevin Burgess says that Darlington fans made a “massive difference” against Blyth on Monday.

One of the biggest crowds for one of Quakers’ regular league fixtures at Heritage Park, 1767, gave the players a standing ovation following a thrilling second half that saw Quakers come back from 1-0 down and beat the league leaders 2-1.

“The fans were amazing in the second half, and they made a massive difference in lifting us and encouraging us. All the players were talking about them later in the changing rooms after the game,” he said. “Long may it continue, the players really appreciate them.”

Kev thought that there might only be one goal in the game, if any. “I thought a single goal would decide the game, if not a goalless draw. The game really opened out after they scored, and we put three men up front.

“Whitey can’t do anything wrong at the moment, it’s unbelievable that he’s scored three goals in two days.

“It shows that if you have big strikers to hit, you can cause problems for the opposing defence. Plus, when he and David Dowson come off the bench, it shows how strong our squad is. The quality is phenomenal.

“Our aim now is to keep this going, and aim for three wins in a row at Halesowen on Saturday.”
