Darlington skipper Kevin Burgess says that Lee Gaskell’s goal against Matlock on Tuesday night is a contender for goal of the season.

Gaskell scored his 11th league goal since joining us in spectacular fashion, with a quick turn and delightful shot over the keeper, and Kev said; “I must have watched it a thousand times already on YouTube! What a fantastic goal. He’s shown that he can score top quality goals like that, such as the ones at Mickleover and Blyth.

“But everybody else is chipping in with goals as well. Tez got on the scoresheet the other night, and I was delighted that Gary Brown scored as well.

“I thought we produced a very solid performance again. We did everything right and restricted them to just a couple of chances. Our shape is great and we’re not making too many daft mistakes.

“Our setpieces were very good again. We’ve been working really hard on them in training, because they can make a real difference if we’re in a tight 0-0 game. When the ball goes in the middle, people are brave and put their full bodies on them.

“It wasn’t an unbelievable performance, but instead it was a strong performance. We’re all looking forward now to Saturday.”
