Darlington centre half Josh Heaton said that it was “class to score” in the 2-1 win over Kidderminster last Saturday – and now he’s looking forward to a return to one of his previous clubs.

Josh was the man of the match last Saturday, because as well as scoring the opening goal, he produced a dominant performance in the heart of the defence alongside Jack Vaulks.

“I think you could tell by my reaction that I thought that it was class to score,” he said.

“I thought a goal was well overdue from me, because I’ve had opportunities before, but not taken them. It was a great feeling scoring against a team like Kidderminster, who are going well in the league at the moment.

“I thought Jack and I played well together at the centre of defence, considering that we hadn’t played together before. We covered each other well, and encouraged one another all the way through the game.”

Quakers climbed up the table to 14th with Saturday’s win, and Josh said; “The team is performing well at the moment, the results are going well for us.

“It was great to see Reece and Thommo back in the team on Saturday, the pair of them put doubt into the opposition’s minds . I thought everyone played well and put a real shift in. It was an enjoyable game to play in.

“Kidderminster got back to 1-1, but we knew that we were playing well, and with Reece and Thommo up front, you can never count us out – and so it proved.

“It was a superb finish by Thommo to win us the game. Not only did he score the winner, he also played his bit in keeping us young lads calm.”

Josh had a loan spell in season 2015-16 at Tamworth when he was at Preston, and he said; “I spent a few months on loan there, and behind my current spell at Darlington, it was the best time of my career so far. I made lots of friends down there, they’re a really good club.

“I played on the 3G pitch quite a few times, so I know what to expect. I’m looking forward to doing the business again this week.”
