The club is very sad to learn of the sudden death of one of its long serving supporters, Russell Jones.

Russ – or “Big Russ” as he was fondly known – was a staunch supporter of the club, and travelled to matches in al parts of the country from his home in Northallerton. He had many friends, and was a member of the Darlo Tykes. He supported the club in many other ways, especially in helping to raise funds.

His son Geraint has been in touch with the club, and said; “He was a MASSIVE Darlington fan, me as well for that matter but I left the area over ten years ago and have been unable to commit as he has. Born in Cardiff he was originally a Cardiff City fan and took me and my two sisters to our first football match, to watch Darlington vs. Cardiff at Feethams in 1996.

“He has followed Darlington ever since this day, through thick and thin and even cites Chris Senior's Wembley goal as his greatest footballing memory. He is/was still a season ticket holder until this day and a proud member of the Darlo Tykes Supporters Club.”

The club would like to pass on its sincere condolences to Russ’ family. Funeral details will be announced in due course.
